Consultative process begins for
UNESCO Plan on the Safety of Journalists and Combating Impunity

UNESCO is in the process of drafting the UNESCO Plan on
the Safety of Journalists and the Combating Impunity and
invites relevant stakeholders to provide their comments
and suggestions at least by 31 August 2012, following the
Decision on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of impunity
endorsed by the International Programme for the Development
of Communication (IPDC) Council at its 28th session on 22-23
March 2012. The objective of the UNESCO Plan on Safety of
Journalists and Combating Impunity is to further improve
the Organization’s work in the protection and promotion
of safety of journalist and fighting impunity of perpetrators
of crimes against journalists, particularly within the following
five areas:
Cooperation with Member States;
Working within the UN System;
Partnership with other organizations and institutions;
Raising awareness in cooperation with all stakeholders;
Prevention of attacks against journalists.
