Mr.
Pravin Mahajan shares the programs
of Janarth.
Currently
Janarth’s major program is to
work with the children of the migrant
labourers, who accompany their parents
during the season (from October, November
onwards till end of March, April).
These children are forced out of the
school because their parents due to
distance have to move out to different
areas. This could be an inter spaces
or interstate migration. Eight years
(2000) back, Janarth started with
a humble beginning- 1 factory and
couple of 100 children. Right now
we can proudly say that we cover over
14,000 children across around 13 districts.
The impact one would say of this program
is that, we found in our survey, which
states more than 67% of the children
attending the temporary schools at
the place of migration do go back
and join the mainstream school.
We
also are run a hostel for the children
in the training areas where the migrant
workers are move out from. This year
we covered nearly 2000 children. Our
observation for the last 2 –
3 years is that the children in the
hostel on an average fair better in
their studies.
Other
project is on agro commodities marketing
and processing. We are try to act
in the market as a support of the
farmers and do our best to pull the
price up in the market. The traders
in general would try to buy at the
lowest price. We have taken up the
job on ourselves saying that in the
market we will try to pull the price
as much as possible. That helps the
farmers to get a profit of around
2% or 3%. These farmers are mainly
from Aurangabad district and we operate
in the six different blocks of the
market. For price realization they
have set a benchmark. Normally they
come to Janarth to set a benchmark
of what their product is worth. We
also deal with agro inputs, like fertilizers
etc. With processing we are help the
dry land crop.
In the disability sector there is
physiotherapy and counseling centers.
We are run training centers for CBR
(Community Based Rehabilitation) workers.
These workers help us in identifying
the disabled especially in the rural
areas. We organize groups of people
who are facing challenges to help
each other. These groups visit from
one village to another village to
assist more people with challenges.
We insist on inclusive education,
especially in rural areas. Normal
schools must admit children with challenges.
From the last 10- 12 years with the
help of local government hospitals
and local clubs, we have identified,
followed up and taken care of few
thousands surgeries all over Auragabad.
60-75 patients at any given point
of time attend our physiotherapy and
counseling center on an average. |
