Interview with Mr Naik, Dy Director - Helen Keller Institute of Deaf & Deaf blind

Naik, on the visually impaired product

Normally visually impaired people have transcript in Braille, which is a six dot matrix. On transformation of normal alphabet that we have into a Braille language the dot is raised beside the alphabet .The combination of all the six dots with the alphabets from A to Z and numerals also. This information is sufficient only for written languages. When it comes to later stage, i.e. graphics, for example you have explain to a visually impaired person the shape of India or any other shape, it is very difficult. In such cases we produced a product called Tactile Braille product. Here the drawings are raised to the size, regarding the scale required. A visually impaired person can explore the size and shape of the drawing with respect to tactile with a finger touch and all information about the product is with respect to Braille numbers. There are two products called Tactile Atlas and Tactile Human Anatomy.
