Mr. K Raman Shankar shares the celebrations of NAB on January 4th, Sir Louis Braille’s Birthday

The government, NAB and many other organization have organized a feet of programme to celebrate this occasion. Braille plays important in any visually impaired individual’s life. Because it is Braille that enables the visually impaired to have access to a lot of books which are converted in Braille and the visually impaired are able to read them. So Braille gives a lot of independence to the visually impaired not only in terms of education but also day-to-day life like employment and many other

We are celebrating this year by the following ways; we have produced English to Hindi Braille dictionary. This dictionary is in 9 volumes in Braille, distributed free of cost to over 400 institutions to all over India. We have also taken up Braille production and free distribution of several other Braille books such as Indian Folk Tales, to the institutions all over India

NAB also organized Braille level national reading competition. The competition was organized in the zonal level at five different occasions and the winners of these zones participated in the national level competition held on 12th December 2008 in Mumbai.
