What is the
exact number of districts in India ?
Google the number of districts in India, and you will find varied
links ranging from 602 to 612 to 640 or so. DevelopedNation.org will
be the only place where you will not only find the number of districts
to be 670, but you will also find basic demographics of most of over
90% of these districts. DevelopedNation.org believes that the system
India has adopted of dividing the country into States / UTs and
further into Districts for administrative purpose is great. And
we have therefore not only adopted this government system as it
is for our coverage, but have started analysing the Social, Environmental
and Economic canvas of each district, as well as compiling contact
details of all the collectors of India so that we can have a dialogue
with them on their vision for and interventions in the district,
as well as, the needs and PPP opportunities within the district.
In cases of natural and man made emergencies, we will also share
the contact details of the district administration in the open zone
so that multiple stakeholders can contact them directly.
Another key reason why we believe development of districts is key
to India's development, is because we believe that while it is true
that the social & developmental challenges change from village
to village or perhaps taluka (block of villages) to taluka, the
best way to capture them is covering the canvas of districts. (States
are too large and there is lot of variation within states).
How do we plan to develop the district
forums
DevelopedNation.org has started interviewing NGOs from districts
across India to understand the pulse of the community. We have so
far interviewed at least one NGO from 550 out of the 670 districts
of India.
During 2013-14, our idea is to invite a minimum of 3 to 5 NGOs
from over 550 to 600 districts to share the local causes. This will
mean that we all get opportunity to share with you the voices of
communities from 85% to 90% of India.
We are looking at sponsors who will increase our ability further
and talk to about 10 to 12 key stakeholders in a given district
to get a clearer picture of the district. Interested brands, companies,
UHNIs or even SMEs can send a mail to Editorial
If you are an NGO working at district
level
Send a mail to Rohini@CSRidentity.com
and we will let you know how we can give voice to your cause.
If you want to volunteer at district
level
DevelopedNation.org plans to promote interesting
volunteering opportunities for people across districts of India.
We are creating our own modules to build the capacity of children
and are looking at giving them free to volunteers who can reach
out to schools in districts of their interest. And yes, committed
volunteers can expect national / global recognition.
Send a mail to Rohini@CSRidentity.com
indicating the name of the district of your interest and within
the district, the name of your village / town / city. Plus of course
your brief background.
