Mrs.
Tina Vajpeyai shares the experience of
how the students of the Foundation returned
to help the other underprivileged
We have a number of kids who came back,
their adults now. They are volunteering
with us now. They help us in our programmes
and various activities whether it is sports
day or teaching in class, dance and drama.
We also have employed a number of them.
We
have about 10 alumni who are employed
with Akansha, three boys who are working
in our social works department, who we
have been trained internally. They come
of very effectively with in the community.
One is working in the HR department, who
is helping in recruitment. One is in the
finance department, she is actually training
with us, and she’s learnt to do
tally. We have number of students who
are actually remained to be teachers,
so they are teaching Akansha classes.
So that’s very positive thing, because
it is a very powerful thing to show the
community that the children can move up.
The problem we find is that people tend
to hold themselves back specially from
the lower level income group. They do
not tend to believe that they are capable
enough to move out of the situation that
they live in .
So we are able to prove is that with the
power of education, through hard work,
excellence; the kids can move ahead, can
go to college, can get better jobs.
The kind of income that lots of our alumni
are earning is three or more times than
from what their parents were earning on
a very short pase of time. We see lots
of kids getting jobs; even part-time jobs
in Café Coffee Day, shopping mall
while studying in college. Nokia has employed
23 Boys from Akansha. These companies
approach us. They know that our children
can speak English quite well even though
they may not necessarily be highly qualified
or top ranking kids. But their language
ability is very strong. That’s a
main thing that one need for lots of service
jobs now-a-days which are available in
the market
