Dr.
Ashok Rau shares the programs
of Freedom Foundation
The foundation focuses on substance
abuse like drug addiction; alcoholism
and HIV/AIDS.
Our programs include anything
and everything that you can
think of within the wide spectrum
of our focus (drug addiction;
alcoholism and HIV/AIDS). Freedom
does its works with full intensity.
We have six different units
with in a range of 2 km from
our Head office (Bangalore).
There are 48 physical units
around primary 5 states in India-
Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu,
Andhra Pradesh and now in Maharashtra
also.
Each unit has a prime purpose.
In case of our care and support
unit, we take care of abandoned
HIV+ children, adults and women
(HIV+) in various stage of their
illness. In high diagnostics
facilities, where we specialize
diagnostics process for people
who need it, like HIV+ or those
living with AIDS.
We run a very huge ART (Anti-retroviral
drugs) program. In the year
2000, we had initiated an ART
roll out. Much before anybody
thought of roll out on ART.
There are a huge number of clients
whom we give these drugs to.
These drugs enhance the quality
of life of people living with
HIV/AIDS.
As a part of the binary intervention,
which Freedom Foundation initiated
six years back run a huge program
of prevention of mother to child
HIV transmission. Each project
for example, the one in Bangalore,
Hyderabad reaches out to 30,000
women every year.
We have over a period of time
catered to such vast clients.
We have documents which shows
that we directly reach out to
about 75, 000 people every month.
This includes men, women and
children. Our indirect reach
is probably double the numbers.
