| Mr.
Shah shares the idea behind Sarvajal.
We
wanted to provide a service of community
water filtration i.e. to make available
clean and pure water to the villages
across India. And the best way to
implement concept was by installing
filters in the villages. That’s
the basic model behind Sarvajal.
We do this by operating with franchises
for which we identify entrepreneurial
people in villages. We look for
either unemployed or very young
people with entrepreneurial fire
to not only supply water to the
villages but also to build a business
for themselves.
We identify these people and set
up filtration units for them and
help them to sell water to the villagers
in their areas. We sell the water
at rupees twenty-five paisa per
liter.
We did a considerable amount of
market research and found that this
is one the most acceptable price
point for the people in these markets.
It is also very sustainable for
us, as a business.
We are currently operating around
fifty units, across four districts
in Rajasthan and Gujarat together.
We have been only running for around
ten months and are doubling by about
every two to three months right
now.
The
process.
The customer comes to a franchise
outlet and purchases a pre-paid
card. So if he/she purchases six
hundred liter card then he/she will
get thirty refills of twenty liters
each. Every day when the customer
comes to get water at the units,
the franchise stamps the card. This
stamps mentions that the customer
have used one of their refills.
Thus allowing a much easier accounting
for the franchises. And also it
is a way of creating a habit for
our villagers to come on a daily
basis or every other day basis
Future
Target.
Our goal is to reach three hundred
to four hundred units in this fiscal
year and our target for the next
few years is to achieve any where
from eight thousand to ten thousand
across India.
