Interview with Naman Shah - Head, R&D - Sarvajal

Mr. Shah on maintaining the quality of water.

The water is provided usually from the borewell, i.e. either owned or operated by our franchise. Sometimes its done in coordination with Panchayat and in some instances the franchise rents the borewell. Whenever we set the unit we make sure that the entire village knows that the water being processed in the areas is (specifically) only for the villagers. It won’t be sent out to other villages.

We ensure the quality of water coming out of the borewell. We do a full chemical and biological test of the water in each of our outlets every month.
We ensure the quality of water coming out of the borewell. We do a full chemical and biological test of the water in each of our outlets every month. At the same time we also do some innovations to our systems, in which a user while receiving water can see the TDS level and can effectively tell whether the water is filtered or not filtered.
This gives them confidence and surety that the water they are getting is pure.
We have made it clear to all our customers that anytime they are allowed to get their water checked to make sure that the water they are drink, the water that has being supplied to then is pure and unadulterated.

We actually have some flexibility in case of containers. We provide container at cost and actually encourage them to use the containers that we provide. Because we have noticed that if we allow villagers to carry water in their own containers, they will bring all kinds of containers, which contained petrol, diesel or even bad water. Encouraging them to buy Sarvajal containers will make them realize of maintaining their container clean and using that container always just for Sarvajal water.

Now we sell three types of containers- water jugs, bubble top containers (seen on top of water coolers i.e. plastic water container) and the third one is the container that we have developed. We will be selling those containers specifically at Sarvajal outlets. This is very unique in its mechanism and keeps the water clean. Prices for the containers are from rupees fifty to one hundred and fifty depending on the size (ten liter to twenty liter)
