Interview with Naman Shah - Head, R&D - Sarvajal

Mr. Shah shares the villager’s response on Sarvajal.

We got a very good response. The first unit was set up in village called Bagad, in Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan. Our idea was to make a sustainable model and we only charged rupees fifteen paisa per liter. This was done through Piramal Foundation.

This pilot unit started of really well. We never thought of expanding more than one unit. The response that we received at the village level was phenomenal. From the very first day itself, we had people lining up outside our outlets and the response was very exciting. That’s when we realized that we had actually stumbled upon something that people really wanted. After first month we had villagers coming and asking us to install units in their near by villages.
This helped us to recognize the potential for this model to scale though out India.
