Mr.
Kapur on wider education system
needed in the country in order to
understand the gravity of water.
From the time I have started to
think about this film (Panni),
I can’t have bath. When I
see water flowing in the water tub,
I feel guilty.
We must get people to think about
the consequences of water scarcity.
My daughter asked me to turn the
tap off when I was brushing my teeth.
She just said what was taught to
her in school with out understanding
the seriousness of the situation.
We need to have broader education
system to make the children realize.
My parents never used lights inefficiently.
Nobody does it these days, but with
electricity becoming more expensive,
people have reduced power wastage.
Water is a community resource. It
doesn’t belong to any individual.
We use to worship water and still
do it. Article 51 A of our constitution
says that every citizen of India
has a fundamental duty to protect
the environment, waters, rivers.
With the present condition, very
soon we will have to store water
in banks.
During my childhood days, in Delhi
early morning, we used to get up
to store water.
With the installation of borewells,
availability of water became easy,
this let to ground water depletion.
There were hand pumps in my grand
father’s little vegetable
pad. With one stroke water use to
flow, but now the ground water level
is 400 feet. So hand pumps in Delhi
don’t work any more.
